I call them mango turtles

this season I saw very little of my box turtles
so hot so dry

next year I will plant watermelons for them

Yes the weather has not been the best for box turtles....
Kat, I love the name mango turtles.... so exotic!
I'm sure the watermelons will be greatly appreciated ;0)

I would love to introduce strawberry plants into the lawn but I wonder how well they would do as the soil is heavy on the clay side ...

a to do for the spring ...to try

for the Mantis! make a label :-) then we can just click on it and have a Love-In with them

thanks for the tip! I have been revamping my blog after switching over and now I can explore more options.... cool ;0)
My Dad planted strawberries in a raised circular bed with graduated levels. It was very productive but you must lay rat wire down on the ground first. Otherwise the moles, voles, etc. will have a field day! He didn't and was not happy when, as you were looking at the plants, they would suddenly disappear under the ground before your very eyes.... in a flash.
Yep raised beds might be an option.

yes I have moles and voles :-) I think it would be kind of cool to see a plant disappear like that before your eyes :-) but then I am weird and do not plan to eat my own produce myself ... it is planted for the critters but I would want them to leave something for the turtles!
