The aging mantis in fall: beautiful and bittersweet. I think not having mantids for several months makes their return in the spring all the more welcomed.
Beautiful colors in this photo, BTW.
Thanks Cindy
A few years ago I brought a Chinese Mantid indoors when the weatherman forecast our first frost of the year.
Thinking that extending its life with the luxury of warm temperatures, complementary food service and a nice roomy home would be a good thing.
Granted the mantid seemed to enjoy being handed crickets and was able to roam free under supervision at times. She appeared very happy. Then I began to notice dark spots on her body... especially on her legs and eventually one broke at the spot. ;0(
I had thought that when her "time" came that she would just keel over and stop breathing. NOT!
Realizing what I had to do, I took her outside and placed her in the sunshine upon now dead flowers. Night came with its freezing temperatures and well you know the rest of the story ;0(
Can't cheat Father Time....
Carolyn,
Thanks for visiting my blog. Your photography and paintings are beautiful--so many thoughts, too, that I share.
Fall is bittersweet.
